Wizard of Oz – Week 7
a note from alise

Passion, Dedication, and Commitment…Bravo!

Dear Parents,

Everyone is going to be stepping up their “show” game this week so get ready. Very exciting! Both casts will be doing a run-through (stumble though) of the show this Sunday.  Way to go! We made it here because of everyone’s hard work.

Our Directors are really working with our actors to find the intention and motivations behind what their characters are saying/doing. It is important for the actors to find the intention behind their words and actions on stage. By doing so, our actors will perform with conviction and purpose when they “tell” the story to the audience. It’s amazing to see it all come together!

These next few weeks will be challenging and thrilling. Again, actors will begin to put the show together from top to bottom. Lots of energy will be needed. Please continue to encourage them to learn and practice their lines, choreography, and blocking. Everyone should be completely off-book. Self-care is extremely important as we move into this last phase in the creative process. Sleep, rest, eating well, and meditation are all tools we hope they use to find their inner balance and calm during these upcoming weeks!

Theater transforms children in so many ways. I hope all of you are seeing the positive impact it is making in your actor’s life. We sure do!

Ruby Slippers

Friendly Reminder

It is important that our actors don’t miss rehearsal. We are at a critical point in the show process where everyone’s participation is needed. Remember: acting is a team sport.

Rehearsal: Sunday, March 17

  • Emerald City will meet in Zale Auditorium.
  • Ruby Slippers will meet in the Senior Assembly room.
  • Pick-up will be at 5:30 pm in the lobby.

Mindful Meditation

This week we focused on our dreams. We took time to visualize our biggest dreams, as if we are living them and how that made us feel in mind and body.

Important – Costume Fittings Begin this Weekend

I sent a detailed email earlier in the week with everyone’s time slots, specifics on undergarments needed, and how these additional costume items need to arrive to the J – recap below. Thank you!

Emerald City: This Sunday, March 17
Check email for time slot.

Ruby Slippers: Sunday, March 24
Check email for time slot.

Additional Items Needed on Your Costume Fitting Day

Who?
If your actor is any type of Munchkin (ie Tots, Tough Kid, Barrister, Coroner, City Father etc.), Winkie/Guard, Ozian, Apple Tree, Winged Monkey, Jitterbug, Nikko, or Crow they will need to bring the below items. Ask your actor because many actors play multiple roles…so if you are for example Aunt Em, you might also be one of the above in which case you too will need to bring the below for your Sunday fitting. All items below will STAY at the J until after your actor’s performance.

Girls

  • Black long-sleeve t-shirt or long-sleeve leotard
  • Black leggings
  • Black jazz or characters shoes

Boys

  • Black pants
  • Black long-sleeve t-shirt
  • Black shoes

How to Bring Items
Please have each item listed below labeled with your actor’s name and the BAG needs to be clearly labeled with your actor’s name and what cast they are in.This is super important so that we can stay organized!

Virally Oz-some Challenge

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 19 – I’ve created a marketing blitz challenge for all of us. I will be sending the information in a separate email on Thursday of this week. I passionately, kindly, lovingly, and excitedly ask that EACH of you participate. It will only take five minutes of your time, but the impact will be large; I know we can do it. If I intrigued you, keep an eye out from me with the subject line: ‘How Virally Oz-some Can We Get?’

Kids Are Marketers Too!

Please ask your actors if they gave out their marketing flyers that we provided two Sundays ago. If they have not yet, please encourage them. If they want a few more, I might have some extras. Just have them ask me.

Complimentary Tickets

All families will receive 1 complimentary ticket per actor enrolled in the program. Those of you who sent me their bios early, you will receive an additional complimentary ticket! All complimentary and purchased tickets will be available at Will Call on the day of the performances.

You Are Oz-Some – Volunteering is Fun!

Ruby Slippers Cast: we are in need of two more dressing room volunteers for the Sunday 6 pm performance. We need your help; our actors need your help. If you have not signed up, come on…it’s really fun and thrilling.

Reminder: to everyone who did sign-up, THANK YOU and you rock! I will be sending out a separate email for those who signed up for the dressing rooms and the food committee. Dressing room volunteers remember: we will need you to select TWO days of tech to join us so that you are prepared and we are ready for performances. I will send you a new sign-up link just for tech days – THANK YOU! Theater magic…here we come!

Additional Opportunities
