DONSKY GYMNASIUM COVID-19 COURT RULES

  • One person or one actual household family will be allowed to shoot at one basket at a time.
  •  No more than six members of a household family will be allowed on one basket at a time.
  • If you are bringing your children to use the basketball court you must fill in the entry form at www.jccdallas.org/entry.
  • Please bring your own ball. (The JCC will not provide any basketballs)
  • Reservations are not required but we highly recommend reserving a spot on our court.  Please follow this link to make a reservation.
  • Reservations are free for members to shoot around by themselves or with their family.  Should you want to reserve a hoop for outside coaching, skills, practice, or for a group, please contact Tanya at 214-239-7147 to secure payment for your reservation.
  • At this time, you cannot reserve a court for pickup or games.

Dates: Starting Thursday, April 1 – April 15 (Dates for after April 15 TBA)

Starting Saturday, April 3 (Games to run every Saturday unless the JCC states otherwise)

Days: Thursdays and Saturdays

Times: Thursdays 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Saturdays 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Court: All vaccinate pick-up games will be played on court 2.

Vaccination: If you have received two Pfizer or Two Moderna Shots and it has been at least two weeks since receiving your second shot or if you have received one Johnson and Johnson shot and it has been at least two weeks since you received your Johnson and Johnson shot.

Policy:   All players must be vaccinated as defined above.

  • If vaccinated, please send proof of vaccination (image of your vaccination card) to Tanya Johnson at tjohnson@jccdallas.org.
  • Proof must be emailed by 12pm on Thursdays. There will be no walk ups allowed.
  • In order to be eligible to play, players must be on the JCC Sports Department Master List of vaccinated members.
  • We will determine date of eligibility based on your card. Card may be submitted prior to the two week mark.
  • Only JCC Members are eligible to play in JCC Vaccinated Pick-up Games. If you are not a current member, please reach out to Ela Bilgin, ebilgin@jccdcallas.org or 214-239-7138 to become a member or renew your membership.
  • Once on the JCC Sports Department Master List of vaccinated members those individuals are eligible to sign up to play Pick-up on the My J APP. Please go to our website for a link and instructions to download the My J App.
  • If you register in the My J App but are not on the master list you will not be granted entry.

Procedure:

  • Upon arrival at the JCC players will have to check in at the Sports and Fitness Desk.
    • Checking in at the Sports and Fitness desk includes filling out and presenting the JCC screening form: jccdallas.org/entry, having a temperature of lower than 100 degrees Fahrenheit as shown by the JCC thermometer and scanning in using your JCC Membership card.
  • After checking in at the Sports and Fitness Desk, players can proceed to the doors at court 2 of the Donsky Gymnasium and check in with the JCC Vaccinated Pick-up Game attendant. The attendant will confirm the player in on the Master list, has signed up to play in the My J APP, and check in through the app.
  • Players who do not follow this process will not be allowed to participate in the JCC Vaccinated Pick-up Games.

What Is The J Way?
The J way of playing basketball works to develop character athletes through competitions and training that support sportsmanship and fair play. Here at the J, we focus on the overall development of each athlete from the basic fundamentals to game strategies. The J way allows all athletes to play, learn, and grow regardless of age or skill level.

Fundamental Clinics

Bring your friends to the JCC and have fun improving your basketball skills with JCC Basketball Coach James Watkins. Coach Watkins focuses on the details of balance, footwork, dribbling, passing, catching, and shooting while building character one fundamental at a time.

Modern Post Play

Get ready to expand your game and learn the skills of today’s modern post player. This six-week program will take you through the skills needed to attack in positionless basketball. Through this program you will learn how to:

  • Dominate smaller players with your back to the basket
  • Face up and attack from the mid post
  • Run your team from a point forward position
  • Score out of pick and roll situations
  • And more

Coach Greg Boxell

Greg Boxell is from the Richardson, North Texas area where he lettered three years on varsity at J.J. Pearce High School. After a successful freshman season at Eastfield Community College in Mesquite, Texas, Greg was selected to play with Team USA in the 2006 Global Games and later earned a Bronze medal. Greg received an athletic scholarship to Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida where he also majored in Journalism. Despite sustaining a career-ending injury his senior year in college, he developed a wealth of basketball knowledge and a unique set of skills throughout his career. “On any given night I was able to play all five positions and match up defensively against all five positions.” Since college, he has acquired over 10 years of coaching experience, ranging from elementary-aged to college and pro skilled athletes. Greg teaches athletes the difference between activity and progress while developing a personally accountable attitude in young men and women. He believes in effective communication, building confidence, and practicing civility.

About Coach James

Coach James Watkins coaches our youth leagues, clinics and lessons. He played his high school basketball at both Woodrow Wilson High School and W.T. White High School. After his playing days finished James started coaching the game he loves working at Next Level Basketball. Under the guidance of Coach Kessler Shepard Coach Watkins developed his coaching craft. He has coached all ages ranging from preschool students through professional players. James is focused on having his players improve every time they step out on the court stating “I teach youth to fall in love with the process of becoming better! When the intrinsic love of becoming better is established, that’s when results start to come more rapidly!”

The J Social Sports Youth Basketball Program is a fun, developmental program that focuses on fundamentals and building a love for the game. Come play basketball at the J for that more personal experience this year. Each team will have a Sunday game, a weekly practice, and a weekly skills night.

About Coach James

Adult Basketball

The Sunday “Mellow” league is a 30 and over league. This is one of the J’s longest running leagues and is designed for the die-hard basketball enthusiast, as well as the casual player. All players register individually and are drafted to a team. This is a 10-game regular season, and all teams will make the playoffs. Games are officiated by certified officials and scores, records, and standings will be kept up with online.

We plan to resume adult sports programs as soon as we are allowed. For adult basketball leagues this will mean resuming seasons from the point of interruption and finishing out the remainder of the season. Registration deadlines for future seasons will be adjusted accordingly.

The Monday “Business” League is now registering!

Mondays, January 10 -March 31
Price: $825/team
Registration Deadline: January 3 (Any person registering after 1/3 will pay a $25 late fee).

This is the J’s competitive “Business” League where you bring together friends or fellow employees from your local “mom and pop” or corporate business to the hardwood. Teams are registered as one unit through a captain as the representative. This is a 10-game regular season, and all teams are playoff eligible. Games are officiated by certified officials and scores, records, and standings will be kept up with online.

The Tuesday “Business” League is now registering!

Tuesdays,  November 2 – February 15
Price: $825/team
Registration Deadline: October 28 (Any person registering after 10/24 will pay a $25 late fee).

Price: $825/team

This is Dallas’ most competitive league guaranteed to provide excitement and camaraderie. In this up-tempo league, be prepared to see behind-the-back passes and reverse lay-ups. Teams are registered as one unit through a captain as the representative. This is a 10-game regular season, and all teams are playoff eligible. Games are officiated by certified officials and scores, records, and standings will be kept up with online.

The Thursday “Masters”  League is now registering!
