We Are Super-cali-fragilistic-JPAS-alidocious!

We have reached the half-way point – way to go! It’s now more than ever that our actors need to come prepared and focused. All actors should be off-book by this weekend. PLEASE encourage them to memorize their blocking and lines, to know all the songs learned to date, and to use the Electronic Resource Library to help with music and choreography.

Now we are in the fun part of rehearsing. Well, it’s all FUN! But, as our actors get used to saying their lines off-book, their director is encouraging them to think more about their character and how they would talk, stand, etc. All the character development we worked on earlier in the process comes into play now. Our characters come alive with meaning, purpose, and personality.

Our actors are doing great, and we want to keep the momentum going. We believe with some practice in between rehearsals our actors are going to nail it. I will be sending out an email regarding an additional rehearsal day.

A shout-out to our actors for bringing their best selves each week. We commend our actors for their determination and dedication; it is admirable.  Please read through below, as it is full of important information, dates, and upcoming events

Electronic Resource Library

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE share this with your actor. This section is designed to assist them between rehearsals. Happy practicing!

4 Things you can do with Your Actor This Week

  1. In the car: listen to the music in the car as they sing along (in character).
  2. Ask to review the ERL videos with them for 10 minutes, and then ask them to show you what they learned.
  3. Ask your actor to give you a “sneak peek” of one of the numbers and have them perform for you.
  4. Practice lines with your actor and act out a scene or two with them.

Spoon Full of Sugar  and Step in Time Cast

  • Theme of the Week: CHARGE!!! We tackled a ton today in rehearsal! Shout out to all the actors’ patience and diligence to get to work. In meditation, we breathed in success and good intentions for the show as we continue our journey until performance day! Our intentions absolutely manifested itself in the work we did Sunday.  🙂
  • Theatre Etiquette: Calling for line. On Sunday we learned what it meant to call for “line.” As the actors begin to be off book there may be times they forget a part of their line. In the event a line is forgotten, and a script is not in hand, an actor can call out “line!” and their stage manager will feed it to them to keep the rehearsal flowing.
  • Theatre Vocab: Strike. We learned the term “strike” while blocking on Sunday. To strike something on the set is to take it off the stage or return it to its original position.
  • Breath for POV. We discussed how adding breath, body language and monosyllabic sounds can substitute for an impulse to speak when your character has a point of view about something. Our actors learned that if they desire to add a line to express how their character feels beyond what is scripted, they can express it with their breath and body language instead.

Costume Fittings

Our team has been working behind the scenes. Set design is in full effect, and so are our costumes.  They are looking fabulous. This week I will be sending out an email regarding time slots for costume fittings.  Costume fittings happen prior to rehearsals on the dates indicated below.

  • Spoon Full of Sugar will have costume fittings on Sunday, March 6th prior to rehearsals.
  • Step in Time will have costume fittings on Sunday, March 13th and 20th prior to rehearsals.

Social Media Challenge – Digital Marketing Kits

Who has used their digital marketing kit to spread the word? Please use the materials to help us ensure we have a packed house for our actors – so exciting! What about this…if each of us did one post that would be 73+ posts circulating on social media about ticket sales – let’s do it! Who’s in?
