Safety is our #1 priority here at the J. Lifeguards are always on duty when the pools are open. Lifeguards are an important safety feature, but are not intended to replace the close supervision of parents or caregivers. Children must always be supervised by parents or caregivers when in the aquatic area. Please watch your child at all times and remember that the safety of your child is your responsibility.

Aquatics Facility Rules & Regulations

To ensure the comfort and safety of all members, please observe the following policies:

  • The aquatic facility is open only when lifeguards are on duty. 
  • No diving. 
  • Extended breath holding activities are dangerous and prohibited. 
  • In case of emergency, dial 9-911 using emergency phone located in the gray box on the wall near outdoor restrooms.
  • Persons aged 13 and under must not be at the pool without adult supervision. 
  • Parents/guardians must accompany and closely supervise their children at all times. Non-swimmers must always remain within arms-reach of an adult. 
  • Persons 13 and under must take a swim test, or opt out and be designated a non-swimmer. 
  • Pets in the pool area are prohibited. 
  • Glass items not allowed in the pool yard. 
  • No person with skin abrasions, open sores, cuts, skin diseases, eye diseases, nasal or ear discharge, or communicable diseases are allowed in the pool.
  • Do not swim if you have been ill with diarrhea within the past 2 weeks.
  • No person shall alter or remove safety equipment from the pool except in an actual emergency.
  • Please lock all valuables in a locker. The JCC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Changing diapers within 6 feet of the pool is prohibited. Germs can spread to surfaces and objects in and around the pool. Please use the restrooms or locker rooms. 
  • Swim diapers designed for pools are required for children who are not toilet trained, regular diapers are prohibited. The swim diaper must be covered by a swimsuit at all times. 
  • Health code requires swimmers to take a soap shower before entering the pool.
  • Running, dunking, pushing, riding on shoulders, fighting, profanity, or roughhousing in and around the pool desk is strictly prohibited and are grounds for dismissal from the J property.
  • Only coast guard approved personal flotation devices are permitted. Arm floaties, rafts, inner tubes, etc. are prohibited. 
  • Alteration or removal or safety equipment is prohibited except in an actual emergency. 
  • Kosher dietary laws are observed at the J. Please respect this policy when bringing food into the JCC. 
  • Dining an d bar tables are not permitted to be moved on the pool deck. Only chairs, chaise lounges, and side tables can be moved.

Admission to the pools may be denied for any of the following reasons:

  • Suspicion that the guest is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Evidence that the guest has a contagious disease.
  • Evidence of open wounds or communicable disease.
  • Guest not having the proper swim attire.

Violation of these policies may result in suspension of membership from the JCC.

Management reserves the right to change these rules at any time to ensure the pool is operated in the most safe and efficient manner.

Facility may close at any time without warning due to water quality or weather conditions. 

Splash Pad Rules

  • No lifeguard will be on duty at the Splash Pad. Children must always be supervised by an adult.
  • Proper swim attire is required. Toddlers must wear swim diapers. No street clothing permitted.
  • Water shoes are recommended to prevent slipping on the wet surface.
  • No food, drinks, or glass containers on or around the splash pad.
  • No climbing, hanging, swinging, or pulling on the equipment.
  • Do not drink the splash pad water.

Water Slide Rules

  • All riders must be at least 48″ tall
  • Maximum rider weight is 300 pounds
  • WARNING: Water depth is 8 feet for the lap pool drop slides. Water depth is shallow for the big slide.
  • Non-swimmers are not permitted
  • All riders must ride feet first while lying on their back with arms crossed across their chest. Do not go down the slide head first. Do not sit up while riding the slide
  • Riders must enter the slide in a sitting position and wait for instructions from the lifeguard stationed at the slide starter tub
  • Do not propel yourself into the ride
  • Only one rider at a time. Absolutely no trains or chains of riders are permitted
  • No running, standing, kneeling, rotating, tumbling or stopping in the flume. Arms and hands must remain inside the flume at all times. Riders should remain in proper riding position until forward movement is terminated. At no time should the rider attempt to stand up while on the slide or prior to coming to a complete stop in the splash out area
  • No tubes, mats, or life jackets are permitted on the waterslide
  • No combs or foreign objects are allowed in pockets and no jewelry can be worn while riding the slide. No cut off jeans or swim wear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets or metal ornamentation; only approved swim suits allowed
  • The line should form on the deck with one rider on each landing and one rider in the starter tub. Wait until landing area is clear before entering
  • Riders must be in good health. Elderly persons, those suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, or persons using prescription medication should consult their physician before using this slide. Individuals with medical conditions including, but not limited to, pregnancy, heart, or back problems should not ride
  • Do not use this slide while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • No diving from the slide
  • Leave the plunge pool promptly after entering

WARNING: Failure to follow rules can result in serious injury.

Inclement Weather

  • At the first sign of thunder or lightning, or if lightning is tracked within 10 miles, outdoor pools will be cleared and remain closed for 30 minutes after the last strike of lightning or clap of thunder. The outdoor deck will be kept clear for the duration of the weather closure.
  • In the event of heavy rain, wind, or thick fog, the pools may be temporarily closed if the bottom cannot be clearly seen.

Violation of these policies may result in suspension of membership from the J.

Wristband Policy & Swim Test Procedure

Wristband Policy 

  • ACCESS FOR JCC MEMBERS, THEIR GUESTS, OR DESIGNATED GROUPS ONLY
  • Members and guests 14 and up must receive daily colored wristband to access outdoor aquatic facility.
  • Members and guests aged 13 and below must wear designated colored swim test wristband:
    • Swimmers who pass the swim test receive a green wristband and are designated as proficient swimmers. 
    • Swimmers who do not pass the swim test or opt-out receive an orange wristband and are designated as non-swimmers. 

Swim Test Procedure

  • Swimmer jumps into water feet first, resurfaces without goggles.
  • Swimmer swims length of pool (25-yards), making consistent forward progress. Must swim on their front, at the surface of the water, swimming freestyle/front crawl or breaststroke. Swimmer cannot turn to back, or swim under water.
  • At end of the 25-yard swim, the swimmer will maintain a tread for 30 seconds. Face and head must stay above water. No floating on back.
  • After treading, swimmer independently climbs out of pool without the use of ladder or steps.

If a swimmer becomes vertical in the water, stops, or cannot continue, then the swimmer does not pass the swim test. Swimmers may only attempt the swim test once per day. Swim test administration and results are the discretion of the JCC aquatics staff.

Swimmer Access Areas

Green Wristband 

  • Ages 0-13: Swimmer is allowed at all parts of outdoor pools, including deep end, without needing a parent or guardian to remain within arm’s reach. Parent or guardian is required to stay on the pool deck.
  • Swimmer must additionally pass height requirement (48”) to ride waterslides.

Orange Wristband

  • Ages 0-5: Swimmer must stay within arm’s reach of parent or guardian at all times, regardless of pool area.
  • Ages 6-13: Swimmer can swim in activity pool (1ft deep area) with parent supervising out of the water, at the edge of the activity pool. In all other pool areas, swimmer must stay within arms reach of parent or guardian.

Additional Provisions 

  • Swimmers with a green wristband who must be saved by a Lifeguard must retake the swim test.
  • Swimmers aged 2 and under are not required to wear wristbands.
  • Waterslide height verification stamps will be placed on wristbands for swimmers aged 13 and under who are 48” or taller.
  • US Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are available for use. Any orange-wristband non-swimmers who are wearing a USCG approved PFD must remain within arm’s reach of parent or guardian at all times, regardless of pool area.
  • LKSA Swimmers in Streamliners – Flyers level are automatically categorized as green.
  • LKSA Swimmers in Splashers – Rollers are automatically categorized as orange but can attempt the swim test to get a green wristband.
