Dallas JCC Reopening

The J will reopen to our members in phases. Phase II begins on Monday, June 1, 2020 and includes the fitness floor, tennis center and indoor pool ONLY.

Effective June 1, 2020: Our operating hours will be limited to Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The fitness center will close from 11:00 am – 12:00 p.m. each day for deep cleaning.

The fitness floor will be limited to 25% capacity, and tennis will be limited to 4 people per court.  Indoor pools will reopen with limited capacity. Locker rooms will remain closed at this time.

Our Phase III opening is still being determined.

Preparing to Welcome You Home
In accordance with governmental orders and guidelines, the J is taking extra precautions to help our communities stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices within of our facility.

Know Before You Go

  • The JCC will be members only during Phase II. No guests please.
  • Entrance to the J will be through the Sports & Fitness complex only. The Front entrance is for J staff only.
  • While recommended, face coverings are not required when exercising in the fitness center but will be required Monday through Friday (2:00 pm – 3:00 pm)
  • Please bring your own towel(s). Towel service is currently suspended.
  • There will be a one-hour time limit on the fitness floor and a 90-minute maximum for the tennis courts.
  • Fitness Floor reservations are encouraged but are not required. If there is a wait due to capacity, reservations will receive priority over walk-ins. Making a reservation does not guarantee a spot and may be subject to change. No calls please.
  • Lockers will not be available. Please limit the belongings you bring to the J, especially valuables.
  • Water fountains will be closed, please bring your own water. Water will be available for purchase at the vending machine only.
  • Kids Club is not open during Phase II.

The next phase of reopening will be determined by the State of Texas and JCC leadership. We will continue to update you via our website, social media and e-mail.

The indoor pool will open during Phase II with limited capacity.

However, Gymnastics and Sports programming will not. We plan to resume these programs as soon as it is deemed safe.

What We’re Doing to Help Keep You Safe

The safety of our members and staff is what’s most important. The J has always been dedicated to delivering a healthy way of life to our communities, and with a carefully planned and phased approach, we will begin to reopen. Each of us will play an important role in making your facility a safe experience for us all.

  • We are following CDC, Federal, State and local guidelines and recommendations.
  • Our staff are required to wear masks, members are required to wear masks at entry and are recommended on the fitness center floor.
  • All JCC staff are self-screening each day for COVID-19 symptoms, and temperature checks are required before they begin work each day.
  • The cleaning agents used to sanitize our facility and equipment are EPA compliant to neutralize viruses, including COVID-19.
  • The Fitness Center will be deep cleaned three times per day, equipment will be cleaned after each use and the equipment will be rotated for use.
  • The number of members is being limited to 25% capacity for Phase II.

As we navigate through the reopening of our facility, there will be some new things to expect during each phase. Amenities and programming will vary and be consistent with governmental orders and guidelines. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together.

Fitness Floor

40 people at any one time. This is based on the size of our space and available equipment.

No. Due to social distancing, half of our equipment will be closed each day and will rotate for use throughout the week. The Queenax and some free weight equipment will be closed entirely.

Yes, the equipment will be cleaned after each use, and equipment will undergo a deep clean three times a day.

Personal Training will resume on a limited basis by appointment. More information to come.

Through J Connect, www.jccdallas.org/jconnect, many of our Group Fitness classes are available online. Onsite group fitness classes are not part of Phase II.

Not during Phase II. Please make childcare arrangements before coming to the J. Children may not be left in cars.

No, the locker rooms and all amenities including but not limited to lockers, towel service, showers, steam room, whirlpool and dry sauna will be closed for use. Only the bathroom facilities will be open.

No, the Donsky basketball gyms will remain closed during Phase II.

Indoor pools (lap and warm water pool) will reopen with limited capacity. Reservations for the pool are encouraged.

Tennis Center

Yes, reservations are mandatory. Walk-ins are not allowed, and only members may book a court at this time.

Players must call the Pro Shop at 214-239-7154 to reserve a court. You can also email aholley@jccdallas.org to reserve a court. Members may book a court 2 days in advance for a 90-minute maximum period.

  • Enter through the Sports & Fitness entrance and present your membership card for access.
  • Face Coverings (masks) are required to enter the JCC and must be worn while moving throughout the building. Masks may be removed once outside at the Tennis facility.
  • A maximum of four players may compete per tennis court. We are maintaining a 4:1 student/pro ratio for instructional tennis.
  • Social distancing standards (6 feet) must be followed in all areas of the facility. Tennis Pros will always maintain a 6 feet distance from members.
  • Courts will be marked for proper changeovers.
  • Water and trash cans will not be available on the courts.
  • Members must not touch tennis gates, net posts, or net straps.
  • Only Tennis Pros are allowed to pick up balls with sanitized ball hopper.
  • Congregating before and after play is not permitted.
  • Water will be available for purchase in the Pro Shop or you may bring your own
  • Only one person is permitted in the Pro Shop at a time. Both the Pro Shop manager and customer must wear a mask.
  • Racket demos and ball machine rentals are not available at this time.

Indoor Pools

Indoor pools will reopen beginning June 1, 2020 with limited capacity. 

Lap pool: 1 person, per lane, per hour
Warm water pool: up to 4 people at a time

Beginning June 1, 2020:
Hours of Operation will be Monday – Friday 6:00 am – 4:45 pm
Natatorium is closed from 11:00 am-12:00 pm for deep cleaning.

Masks must be worn from the Sports & Fitness entrance, to the pool deck, and may be removed once personal belongings are placed on a pool deck chair. A distance of six feet between other patrons on the pool deck in addition to aquatics staff must be maintained at all times.

Members will enter the indoor pool deck from the outdoor pool deck and check in with an attendant to confirm reservation or to be queued for the next available spot. Exit will be through the Sports & Fitness hallway (across the pool deck from entrance). 

Reservations for lap pool lanes or sections of the warm water pool are recommended but not required. Reservations will be for a maximum of 1 hour. Accessible lanes with ladder or stairs will be specifically available for reservation. 

  • One swimmer per lane in the pool, and swimming must be in the middle of the lane. 
  • If swimmers come with members of the same household, each person will need their own lane reserved.
  • Entrance into the pool will be staggered at each end. For example, the swimmer in lane 1 will place their equipment down and enter from the shallow end of that lane, whereas the swimmer in lane 2 will place their equipment and enter from the deep end of that lane.
  • No crossing over or under the lane ropes into another lane.
  • No congregating at the end of a lane to speak with other swimmers. 
  • Pool equipment such as kick boards, pool buoys, fins, water weights, and noodles will not be available for use. Please bring your own training equipment. Goggles and swim caps will not be available for loan.
  • No programming such as private or group swim instruction, swim team, or water aerobics are scheduled during our initial pool opening phase.

Members must come ready to swim with their own towel and with clothes over their swimming apparel. After swimming, members will need to dry off completely before leaving the aquatic facility and building.

Personal belongings can be placed on a single deck chair while swimming. Chairs will be spaced apart on the pool deck. After each member comes to swim, the chairs will be removed for disinfection and replaced with a clean chair.

No, only members coming to swim will be allowed on the pool deck.  Pools are only open for fitness swim at this time, such as lap swimming in the lap pool or therapy exercise in the warm water pool. Family recreational swim is not available at this time.

In order to take advantage of all that our membership has to offer, we ask that you follow these guidelines and policies:

  • Membership cards are required for all members who are 15 years of age and older. Cards are issued at the time of joining. If a card is lost or damaged, you are required to replace it for a fee of $15.
  • The first year of membership is a full-year commitment. After the first year,  your membership becomes a month-to-month commitment with 30 days notice to cancel.
  • We would love for you to bring your guests! A local guest, if accompanied by a member, is welcome to participate in the  Sports & Fitness Center a maximum of four times a year. Guest fees are $10 for guests who are 16 years of age and older and $5 for guests 15 years of age and younger.
  • Out-of-town guests may visit as often as they are in the Dallas area, as long as they are accompanied by a member. In addition to the daily rates above, out-of-town guests may purchase a weekly pass at the rates of $25 for an individual and $35 for a family.
  • Your membership card is REQUIRED for entrance into the Sports and Fitness Complex and Goldberg Early Childhood Center.

We offer Prime/Well On Target and SilverSneakers to those that may qualify through their insurance company. If you are interested in our Sports & Fitness center, check with your plan today to see if you have this fitness program benefit.

If you are 85 or older we want to make you aware of a special gift made possible by the Mildred Potash Eighty-Five Alive JCC Seniors’ Endowment Fund of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation.

In celebration of your age, this fund has 20 grants available in the amount of $100 to be used to discount the cost of a JCC Membership. These grants are available on a first-come, first-served yearly basis.
