Dallas JCC Reopening

The J will reopen to our members in phases. Phase III begins on Sunday, June 14, 2020 which includes extended hours of the fitness center. The following areas will be opening: Donsky basketball gyms, group fitness, locker rooms, gymnastics programming, personal training, LKSA and the outdoor pool (Monday, June 15th).

The following capacity and time limitations will be in effect:

  • Fitness floor: 50% capacity (80 people); 1 hour
  • Indoor lap pool: 6 people (1 person per lane); 1 hour
  • Warm water pool: 4 people for recreational/therapy swim at a time; 1 hour
  • Outdoor Pool: Family Swim will be limited to reservation, lap swim (1 person per lane); 1 hour

Hours of Operation

Our operating hours will be :

  • Monday – Thursday: 5 am – 8 pm
  • Friday: 5 am – 6 pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: 7 am – 6 pm

The fitness center will closed for deep cleaning:

  • Monday – Thursday: 10 am – 11 am & 3 pm – 4 pm
  • Friday: 10 am – 11 am
  • Saturday & Sunday: 12 pm – 1 pm

Mask Only Times for the Fitness Center: 
(Masks are required on the fitness floor during these hours)

  • Friday: 11 am – 12 pm

We have a specific time each day that masks are required for the fitness center to accommodate those who are in higher-risk populations or who feel more comfortable wearing masks.

Preparing to Welcome You Home
In accordance with governmental orders and guidelines, the J is taking extra precautions to help our communities stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices within of our facility.

What We’re Doing to Help Keep You Safe

The safety of our members and staff is what’s most important. The J has always been dedicated to delivering a healthy way of life to our communities, and with a carefully planned and phased approach, we will begin to reopen. Each of us will play an important role in making your facility a safe experience for us all.

  • The JCC is following CDC, Federal, State and local guidelines and recommendations.
  • All JCC staff are self-screening each day for COVID-19 symptoms. Temperature checks are required before they begin work each day and our staff are required to wear masks (face coverings) at all times while in the building.
  • The cleaning agents used to sanitize our facility and equipment are EPA compliant to neutralize viruses, including COVID-19.
  • The Fitness Center will be deep cleaned three to four times per day depending on hours of operation. Equipment will be cleaned after each use and the equipment will be rotated for use.
  • The number of members is limited to 50% capacity (80 people) during Phase III.

Know Before You Go

  • The JCC is open to members and program participants only. Please refrain from bringing guests, spectators or other family members if not enrolled into a program or using the facility at this time. Premier Members may request guest passes through the membership office. Please email membership@jccdallas.org
  • Entrance to the J will be through the Sports & Fitness complex only. The front entrance is for J staff only.
  • A fresh pair of disposable gloves may be worn while working out. Please discard immediately after use and wash or sanitize hands.
  • Please bring your own towel(s). Towel service is currently suspended.
  • There will be a one-hour time limit on the fitness floor, indoor pool, outdoor pool, basketball gyms and a 90-minute time limit for the tennis courts.
  • Water fountains will be closed. Please bring your own water. Water will be available for purchase at the vending machine only.
  • Kids Club is not open during Phase III.

You must wear a mask (face covering for your nose and mouth) when entering the building. Your nose and mouth must remain covered throughout the building unless designated otherwise.

Places where masks may be recommended but not required include: Exercising on the fitness floor, basketball gyms, group fitness, swimming or outside on the tennis courts

Yes, gymnastics, aquatics and sporting programming will reopen during Phase III. Please see our FAQs section for each area below.

Kids Club will not reopen during Phase IV. Please make childcare arrangements before coming to the J. Children may not be left in cars, be brought to the fitness center or left in the hallway.

Private Training Suite Reservation

Fitness Floor Fast Pass is no longer available at this time. Due to ample space on the fitness floor, reservations are not required.

Lap/Warm Water Pool Reservation

Reservations for lap pool lanes or sections of the warm water pool are recommended but not required. Reservations will be for a maximum of 1 hour. Accessible lanes with ladder or stairs will be specifically available for reservation. 

Outdoor Pool Reservation

Reservations for outdoor lap pool lanes or family swim are recommended but not required.
Outdoor lap lanes are available in 1-hour time slots.
Family recreational swim reservations are available in 1.5-hour time slots.
The outdoor baby pool will also be available for reservation in 1.5-hour time slots. Only one family at a time will be allowed access to the baby pool and the surrounding furniture.

Basketball Gym Reservation

Reservations for the basketball gym are encouraged but not required. Reservations will be for a specific  time. The reservation does not guarantee that there will not be a wait time when you arrive.

There is a one hour time limit.

Group Fitness Reservation

Reservations for group fitness classes are required. Reservations will be for a specific class and time. Once a class is full, you will not be able to reserve a spot. There is a maximum of 25 people per class. 

Conditions

All group fitness classes, including Aqua Fitness will require a reservation through Spivi.

Once you register, you will be able to use the system throughout the building. If you are having trouble with registration please email tarends@jccdallas.org

A Comprehensive Approach

We continue to follow stringent sanitation protocols for proper disinfection, operation and maintenance, as well as adding additional procedures to achieve a new level of cleanliness.

Safety Measures at Our Facility

As we navigate through the reopening of our facility, there will be some new things to expect during each phase. Amenities and programming will vary and be consistent with governmental orders and guidelines. We appreciate your help and understanding as we work through this time together.

Fitness Floor

80 people at any one time. This is based on the size of our space and available equipment.

No, due to social distancing, some of our equipment will be closed each day and will rotate for use throughout the week. The Queenax and some free weight equipment will be closed entirely.

Yes, the equipment will be cleaned after each use, and equipment will undergo a deep clean three times a day.

Yes, please contact Tanya Johnson at tjohnson@jccdallas.org to schedule sessions with a trainer. We have limited availability at this time.

Kids Club will not reopen during Phase IV. Please make childcare arrangements before coming to the J. Children may not be left in cars, be brought to the fitness center or left in the hallway.

Yes, the locker rooms will reopen during Phase III, which will include showers and locker service. These services will be more limited than normal. Steam, sauna, whirlpool and towel service amenities will still be unavailable.

Yes, at limited capacity only. Six people are permitted in the lap pool (one person per lane) and up to four people in the warm water pool at a time. Limited family swim will be available in our outdoor pool by reservation only. See outdoor pool information below.

Tennis Center

Yes, reservations are mandatory. Walk-ins are not allowed, and only members may book a court at this time.

Players must call the Pro Shop at 214-239-7154 to reserve a court. You can also email aholley@jccdallas.org to reserve a court. Members may book a court two days in advance for a 90-minute maximum period.

  • Enter through the Sports & Fitness entrance and present your membership card for access.
  • Face coverings (masks) are required to enter the JCC and must be worn while moving throughout the building. Masks may be removed once outside at the tennis facility.
  • A maximum of four players may compete per tennis court. We are maintaining a 4:1 student/pro ratio for instructional tennis.
  • Social distancing standards (six feet) must be followed in all areas of the facility. Tennis Pros will always maintain a six feet distance from members. • Courts will be marked for proper changeovers.
  • Water and trash cans will not be available on the courts.
  • Members must not touch tennis gates, net posts or net straps.
  • Only Tennis Pros are allowed to pick up balls with sanitized ball hopper.
  • Congregating before and after play is not permitted.
  • Water will be available for purchase in the Pro Shop or you may bring your own.
  • Only one person is permitted in the Pro Shop at a time. Both the Pro Shop manager and customer must wear a mask.
  • Racquet demos and ball machine rentals are not available at this time.

Indoor Pools

Indoor pools will reopen beginning June 1, 2020 with limited capacity. 

Lap pool: 1 person, per lane, per hour
Warm water pool: up to 4 people at a time

Both pools are closed 12 – 1 pm daily for deep cleaning.

  • Indoor pools are only open for fitness swim at this time, such as lap swimming in the lap pool or therapy exercise in the warm water pool, and swim lessons.
  • Family recreational swim is only available in the outdoor pool.
  • Six feet distance between other patrons on the pool deck in addition to aquatics staff must be maintained at all times.
  • Water fountain on the pool deck will be closed. Please bring water with you or there are bottles available at the Sports & Fitness desk.

Members will enter the indoor pool deck from the outdoor pool deck and check in with an attendant to confirm reservation or to be queued for the next available spot. Exit will be through the Sports & Fitness hallway (across the pool deck from entrance).

  • One swimmer per lane in the pool and swimming must be in the middle of the lane.
  • If swimmers come with members of the same household, each person will need their own lane reserved.
  • Entrance into the pool will be staggered at each end. For example, the swimmer in lane 1 will place their equipment down and enter from the shallow end of that lane, whereas the swimmer in lane 2 will place their equipment and enter from the deep end of that lane.
  • No crossing over or under the lane ropes into another lane.
  • No congregation at the end of a lane to speak with other swimmers.
  • Pool equipment such as kickboards, pool buoys, fins, water weights, and noodles will not be available for use. Please bring your own training equipment. Goggles and swim caps will not be available for loan.

  • No more than 20 participants will be allowed per class. Signups are required through Spivi click here.
  • Participants must leave the pool immediately after the class finishes.

Masks must be worn from the Sports & Fitness entrance to the pool deck, and may be removed once personal belongings are placed on a pool deck chair. A distance of six feet between other patrons on the pool deck in addition to aquatics staff must be maintained at all times

Yes, locker rooms and showers will be available for use but towel service continues to be suspended. Swimmers can come ready to swim with their own towel and with clothes over their swimming apparel or change in the locker rooms before swimming. After swimming, locker room showers can be used but personal towels must be brought.

Personal belongings can be placed on a single deck chair while swimming or in the locker rooms. Chairs will be spaced apart on the pool deck. After each member comes to swim, the chairs will be removed for disinfection and replaced with a clean chair

Yes, youth members must be eight years or older to swim laps. For swimmers ages 8-14, the parent or guardian MUST remain on the pool deck watching their child or swimming with the child in an adjacent lane. Members ages 15-17 can swim without a parent or guardian present. Youth lap swimmers may also make reservations to swim in the outdoor lanes.

LKSA will reopen for swim lessons on June 15. Swim lessons will look a bit different based on state and local guidelines and CDC information.

Outdoor Pools

Closed for Deep Cleaning: Indoor and Outdoor pools closed 12:00-1:00pm for deep cleaning every day.

  • Family groups will have access to a designated seating area that is distanced from other groups. All furniture will be cleaned and sanitized after each family. A family is defined as the parents and/or guardians and the children of that same household. Separate families that would like to coordinate times to swim together must each make separate reservations.
  • Members who would like access to the outdoor pool deck to tan, but not swim, will be allowed to do so in designated areas on the pool deck on a first come, first serve basis.
  • One swimmer per lane in the pool and swimming must be in the middle of the lane.

No, reservations for pool lanes or a family swim time in the outdoor pool are recommended but not required. There will generally be 2-3 lap lanes available for reservation in the outdoor pool. Up to six families can be accommodated in the outdoor pool but this may be reduced when water aerobics classes occur. You can make a reservation by clicking here.

  • There will be a limit of 21 people (including instructor) in the Group Fitness Studio.
  • There will be a limit of 11 people (including instructor) in the Spin Studio.
  • There will be a limit of 20 people (plus instructor on deck) for outdoor pool – aqua fitness.
  • There is a limit of 16 people (including instructor) for the outdoor wood area.

Yes, masks must be worn from the Sports & Fitness entrance to the group exercise studios. Face coverings are not required but will be highly recommended for all Group Fitness participants and instructors

Hand sanitizer and disinfecting gym wipes will be freely available to instructors and guests. There will be a 30-minute shut down between classes to clean each studio.

For attendees using hand weights in strength classes, place weights in the used equipment bin after usage.

Yes, many of our Group Fitness classes are available online in our members-only Facebook group. This includes insurance members. You can also visit J Connect here for additional on-demand content.

Yes, all attendees for yoga, pilates, barre, boot camp, strength, dance, spin and water fitness will need to reserve a spot through the Spivi App. Go to Spivi.com to download the app.

You will enter through the set of doors in the hallway closest to tennis and you will exit through the set of doors next to Donksy Baskeball Court 3. Both sets of Group Fitness doors and the door to the Spin Studio will remain open at all times.

No, fans will not be operating in any classes in either studio.

Yes, please bring your own mat for yoga classes.

  • • Instructors will remind Group Fitness attendees to be aware and practice social distancing and to maintain at least six feet of separation in the class setting.
  • Distancing floor markers are positioned six feet apart on the Group Fitness studio floor.
  • Spin Studio: specific bike numbers that meet the six feet of separation will be used during the spin classes.

Speedflex

To enter: All individuals coming to use Speedflex should enter through the Sports and Fitness entrance. Upon entry, they can walk up the ramp by the pool and follow the hallway to the Speedflex studio.

To exit: After completing their class, all individuals should walk towards the pool and down the ramp to exit through the Sports and Fitness exit.

Yes, all individuals entering the building will need to wear a mask upon entry of the building until arriving at the Speedflex Studio. All instructors will wear a mask. It is not mandatory that you wear a mask during class, but it is recommended. We will also provide gloves if you would like them but they are not required.

No, we will not be checking member temperatures. All instructors will have their temperature checked upon arrival. All non-member participants entering the facility will need to fill out a screening form. For department, please type in Speedflex.

Yes, reservations are required. Please download the Spivi app or go to www.spivi.com to sign up. If this is your first time you will need to create a login.

Before and after each class all towers and equipment will be cleaned with disinfectant wipes which are EPA compliant.

There will be a six person max. We will be using every other tower which will be five and one auxiliary. Only one person is allowed near the storage shelf at a time.

Yes, when you arrive at the Speedflex Studio, please check in with the instructor. If you are new, please provide an email address.

No, please bring your own towel(s). Towel service is currently suspended.

No, heart rate monitors will not be used unless you have your own.

The instructor will use verbal cues and may call you by name over the microphone. This is for your safety.

Gymnastics

  • Class structure will be different than in the past as we realize it is difficult for children to developmentally understand physical distancing. Stations and activities will be modified to allow safe distance between children and to eliminate partner activities and waiting in lines.
  • Physical contact with the coach will be limited except for safety reasons. Because of this, we will be focusing on skills that participants can do safely on their own. This includes basic skills, coordination, strength/endurance, and drills.
  • Equipment will be cleaned between rotations.
  • We will be eliminating plush props & porous equipment and will instead be using limited items that are easily sanitized.
  • Gymnasts will need to bring a clearly labeled water bottle as we will not be using water fountains
  • Classes will be staggered with reduced sizes for the summer. Class ratios will be 4:1 for preschool, 5:1 for beginners, and 6:1 for intermediate/advanced team practices will be strictly limited in size and will be broken into two or three groups for rotations.
  • Please make sure your child uses the restroom directly before class. We have a single restroom in the back area of our gym that can be used if needed during classes.

Classes: Small bag with mask, hand sanitizer, and water bottle.

Team gymnasts: Small bag with mask, hand sanitizer, water bottle, grips if applicable, and chalk (we will be providing an initial block of chalk).

  • Parents are required to wear masks while in the building.
  • Staff will be required to wear masks during class time.
  • Children are required to wear masks upon entry into the J and when moving around within the building. Once inside the gym, children are not required to wear masks for gymnastics, although they may choose to do so. However, please keep in mind that masks do limit view which can make certain skills challenging.
  • Staff will wash their hands before and after each class.
  • We ask that all gymnasts wash their hands before and after each class time.
  • Cleanings will occur before and after each class.
  • Deep cleaning will take place daily.
  • Only one parent/guardian per student. No siblings may accompany parents at this time.
  • Parents will not be allowed into the gym at this time due to limited observation space.
  • Parents will be able to look through the glass doors once class has started. We will have a separate parents’ waiting area outside the gym.
  • All gymnastics participants will need to enter through the Sports & Fitness entrance.
  • All participants (class and team) need to be walked into the gymnastics gym with an adult. We recommend you arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to allow time for additional screening procedures.
  • Members will enter using their Member IDs. Non-members will check in through an online form on their phone and present their completed form to enter.
  • We will be using the door closest to the spinning room for our entrance.
  • Please wait at designated spots in the hallway before class time.
  • We will be admitting children into the gym one at a time to ensure physical distancing.
  • All participants will complete an online screening form ahead of time on their phones and present the completed form to a staff person upon entering the gym. Only those with temperatures 99.9 degrees & below will be allowed to participate.
  • Cubbies will be closed, so children will need to give all items (except their small bags) to parents prior to class starting.
  • We will be using the door closest to the swimming pool for our exit.
  • All participants (class and team) need to be walked out of the gymnastics gym with an adult.
  • Please wait at designated spots in the hallway for your child to exit from this door.
  • We will permit gymnasts to exit the gym one at a time when a parent is present to ensure physical distancing.
  • We will notify staff and families immediately of a COVID-19 diagnosis while maintaining confidentiality as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • We will close off areas used by that person and will not use them again until deep cleaning and disinfection has occurred.
  • We will inform those exposed to a person with COVID-19 to self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days, and follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop. If any classes are cancelled due to COVID-19, you will receive a refund for those classes.

All JCC Staff will receive training specific to COVID-19, health and safety protocols related to COVID-19, and how to ensure for greater health and safety, prior to their first day of work.

Donsky Basketball Gyms

All individuals entering the building will need to wear a mask upon entry of the building until arriving at their assigned basket in the Donsky Gymnasium. It is not mandatory that you wear a mask while shooting, but it is recommended.

No, we will not be checking member temperatures. All employees and coaches, which include rentals, will have their temperature checked upon arrival. All non-member participants and parents entering the facility will need to fill out a screening form at jccdallas.org/entry.

Reservations are not required but we highly recommend reserving a spot on our court. If you do not have a reservation the Donsky Gymnasium monitor will assign you a basket as soon as one becomes available.

After an individual or a household family is finished using the Donsky gymnasium, the Donsky Gymnasium monitor will clean and disinfect the benches, tables and bleachers by that basket before allowing the next individual or household family access to the basket.

Yes, each day between 1 and 2 pm JCC housekeeping staff will deep clean the Donsky gymnasium one court at a time. During those hours, only four baskets will be open for shooting.

To enter: All individuals coming to use the Donsky gymnasium should enter through the Sports and Fitness entrance. Upon entry, they can walk up the ramp by the pool and follow the hallway to court 3 doors. The court 3 doors will be used as the entrance.

To exit: After completing your time in the gymnasium, all individuals should exit through the Donsky 1 doors. From there, they should walk toward the pool and down the ramp to exit through the Sports and Fitness exit.

One person or one actual household family will be allowed to shoot at one basket at a time. No more than six members of a household family will be allowed on one basket at a time.

There is a one hour time limit.

Reservations are free for members to shoot around by themselves or with their family. Should you want to reserve a hoop for outside coaching, skills, practice, or for a group, please contact Tanya at 214-239-7147 to secure payment for your reservation. In order to take advantage of all that our membership has to offer, we ask that you follow these guidelines and policies:

  • Membership cards are required for all members who are 15 years of age and older. Cards are issued at the time of joining. If a card is lost or damaged, you are required to replace it for a fee of $15.
  • The first year of membership is a full-year commitment. After the first year,  your membership becomes a month-to-month commitment with 30 days notice to cancel.
  • We would love for you to bring your guests! A local guest, if accompanied by a member, is welcome to participate in the  Sports & Fitness Center a maximum of four times a year. Guest fees are $10 for guests who are 16 years of age and older and $5 for guests 15 years of age and younger.
  • Out-of-town guests may visit as often as they are in the Dallas area, as long as they are accompanied by a member. In addition to the daily rates above, out-of-town guests may purchase a weekly pass at the rates of $25 for an individual and $35 for a family.
  • Your membership card is REQUIRED for entrance into the Sports and Fitness Complex and Goldberg Early Childhood Center.
