A message from our Directors

Dear Community,
Every year I attempt to articulate what makes the J Performing Arts Space (JPAS) different from other programs. This year I want to share a personal experience. A dear family member, 11 years old, has ADHD and struggles with making and keeping friends, along with staying in a positive mindset and desperately needs community. Sound familiar? She was considering trying out for the musical at her private school in Miami. I of course was thrilled, and I shared with her and her mother the power of theater. How it builds confidence, teamwork, literacy, communication, empathy, imagination, self-discipline and public speaking, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
So, I eagerly took a deeper look at the opportunity her school offers and began to research additional programs that maybe, just maybe could help her and my family. After researching the possibilities, I realized even more how unique and important our JPAS program is for our community. I wished with a passion she lived in Dallas because I know JPAS is exactly what she needs. While the power of theater has the possibility to impact youth’s lives in many ways it is the special sauce of JPAS that enables children to feel seen, heard, accepted, and empowered to be their best self.
See, JPAS is set in a nurturing, safe, inspiring, non-competitive environment. What additionally sets us apart greatly from other theater and youth programs is the personal approach our talented, caring staff offer to our students. We understand that many children today are facing mental health challenges. According to a report published by the Texas Commission of the Arts in 2021, the arts can reduce the risk of depression by 32% and increase overall health and well-being. By offering mindfulness-based performing arts programming, we can meet the social, emotional, and mental needs of our children. JPAS is designed to ignite artistic expression through performing arts and teach children the importance of self-love, kindness, and gratitude by creating an empowerment and personal development toolbox that builds confidence and 21st century life skills. And, let’s not forget the theater magic or the theater family you experience at JPAS!
I encourage you to sign your child up to be a part of our production and our community. I wish my sweet family member could. There are few programs like ours out there and it would be an honor to have the opportunity to make a difference in your child’s life.
Shine Bright,
Alise Robinson
