Commitment, Passion, Practice

Rehearsals this Sunday were fantastic! Our actors are in the thick of it and we couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and commitment. Hearts were pumping, feet were moving, and they did great! We are super impressed with everyone’s progress. Both casts also dug deeper into character development and blocking. As the weeks continue, it will be super important that our actors practice at home. Practice, practice, practice. Retention between rehearsals is key. Please ask your actor if they are off-book.

A shout-out to our actors for bringing their best selves each week. We commend our actors for their determination and dedication; it is admirable.  Each and every individual has the capacity to do anything they put their mind to as long as they believe in themselves!

Electronic Resource Library

PLEASE share with your actor. This section is designed to assist them between rehearsals. Parents can help by setting some time aside each week encouraging and helping their actor to use the dance videos and MP3 files. This is a great way to bond too! Happy practicing!

Pride Rock Highlights

  • Our first round of costume fittings went amazing! Our actors were so excited to see how they looked. It’s already helping them get more into their characters. We can’t wait to see the rest of our cast at their costume fittings next week.
  • Today’s meditation theme focused on how good friends can help us feel less lost and more supported in life.
  • We talked about things that make performances more energetic—smiling, using imagination, singing in a brighter tone, standing up straight, etc. We had the actors write out what they find works best for them.
  • Scar, our hyenas, and our buzzards learned the choreography for Be Prepared. Then, they performed it for the whole cast and got a huge round of applause.

Hakuna Matata Highlights

Our kids have been working hard throughout rehearsals! We have set our off-book deadline for next week!

  • Theater Vocab: Off book. Our kids have been working hard to get off book, meaning they no longer need the script during rehearsals!
  • This week we learned what it means to call for “line.” As our actors work to be off book next week, we discussed ways to keep the rehearsal flowing if they forget part of their line. Ask your actor how to call for “line”!
  • During our snack break, we shared our animal fact of the week – “giraffes have no vocal chords!” That won’t stop the giraffes in our show from singing their best though!
  • We had a great time combining different theatrical elements to create full scenes with blocking, choreography, and music as we made our way through Act 2! What fun!

Mark Your Calendars – Costume Fittings

Friendly reminder, we have our final early costume fitting this week for our Pride Rock Cast. I sent a reminder email regarding assigned and agreed-upon time slots last week. Don’t forget your base layers!

  • Hakuna Matata – will have costume fittings on Sunday, March 3, and March 10 PRIOR to rehearsals. I sent an email with specific time slots for each cast member. Uncertain? Email me.

Please remember to bring your actors base layers/added items to their fittings. How to Bring Items:
Please have each item labeled with your actor’s name; the BAG needs to be clearly labeled with your actor’s name and what cast they are in.
This is super important so we can stay organized!
