Voice, Heart, and Soul!

Our performers are working hard – way to go! This week our theme was rising-up to new challenges and what a fantastic job everyone is doing.

It is so incredible to see how unified each cast has become in such a short amount of time and to watch the friendships and camaraderie build upon doing something they love. Each of you would be super proud to know that all of our actors are stretching their comfort zone and putting themselves out there by embracing all of the theatrical direction they have been given. It’s amazing; they are amazing.

Please continue to encourage performers to be “off-book” (both lines and songs) and to practice their choreography at home (directors have asked them). I’ve received such wonderful messages from parents that actors are coming home excited and inspired, and we are thrilled…thank you for sharing!

This week we will be diving deeper into blocking, choreography, and character-development, working to find our characters’ voice, heart, and soul! Putting on a production is hard work. It requires 100% dedication. Rehearsing for four hours takes focus, refocus, and then some more focus – they’re doing great! Our amazing artistic staff is also hard at work, ensuring everyone is giving it their all, yet having fun!

Jungle Book Cast

• At the beginning of rehearsal, each actor set an intention on what they hope to accomplish in today’s rehearsal. Many of them wanted to have the opening memorized.  We are well on our way!
• The actors were excited to work on music with Mr. Adam, Music Director. They rocked it and learned many new songs!
• We had a blast in Dance. We worked hard and played hard.  We opened up with the name game and then learned the bulk of choreography for Bare Necessities.
• We also dove in to how essential it is to tell the story in musical theater through dance and while singing.
• Actors were reminded that it is important to continuously review what they learned in rehearsal so that we continue moving forward every rehearsal.

Into the Woods Cast

• The actors were excited they got to spend quality time learning music with Mr. Adam. Although the actors were familiar with a lot of the music, working with Mr. Adam gave them the opportunity to delve deeper and learn to sing in character.
• As the actors become more comfortable with the show, we are starting to see great characterization developing.
• Please encourage the actors to get off book so that they can play even more with their characters. Speaking of which, Mrs. Linda has set Week 5 as the off book date for Into the Woods.
• Kudos to the Happily Ever After cast for getting the farthest in blocking. Mrs. Linda will be rewarding them for their hard work.  I Wish Cast is not far behind! Yahoo!
•  In dance our actors worked hard and played hard too!  We began with the name game and followed it up by learning all of Finale 6.  This required us to also dig deep in characterization.
• Their hard work is a joy to watch.
