Jiu-Jitsu

In the interest of many of our members, we have added a martial arts program (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) for the whole family. We are offering this program on a 6-six week basis, however we intend for this to be a year round martial art, self-defense, fitness and exercise program. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art built around 7 different martial arts with an emphasis on ground self-defense. It is the latest among all martial arts and the most effective self-defense system.   Sometimes referred to as “the gentle art,”  BJJ uses technique and leverage to take the confrontation to the ground, dominate the position, take control and end an altercation by applying self-defense techniques to defeat potentially bigger and stronger opponents. There is no age limit to learn these skills.

We will teach our kids, adults and seniors the same foundational curriculum that’s encouraging, engaging, and fun!  This is an excellent way for any age to get exercise and build confidence, strength, discipline, and endurance, all while learning vital self-defense techniques. It also encourages a healthy lifestyle by motivating students to make healthier decisions. Many of the lessons learned through Jiu-Jitsu are applicable in our everyday lives.

Richard Allen

Headed by Professor Richard Allen, a retired businessman, is an International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Black Belt, 5-time IBJJF Masters World and Pan American Champion, and 5-time Masters Silver & Bronze medalist.  Professor Richard has trained with the top World, Pan American, Judo and Brazilian Champions.  Professor Richard currently trains at Alliance Dallas with Brazilian World Champion Joao Gabriel Rocha from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Before permanently moving to Dallas, Professor Richard co-owned a successful jiu jitsu academy in California (a Cobrinha Jiu Jitsu affiliate).

When Professor Richard is not on the mats,  he enjoys strength training, fly-fishing, playing chess, and enjoying his 8 grandkids, ages 2 through 13, who call him “Poppy.”

His dedication to physical fitness is a top priority for him, ensuring that he can continue to teach and give back to the jiu jitsu community.

Coach Ryan Howard

Meet Coach Ryan Howard, an IBJJF Purple Belt, is one of our adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors with competitive martial arts experience.  Coach Ryan, an 8-time medalist in the World League and Fuji State Championships will assist Professor Richard with adult classes with foundational curriculum in a way that’s encouraging, engaging, and fun!  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent way for all age groups to get exercise while learning vital self-defense techniques.  Our instructors will mix Jiu-Jitsu concepts with street self-defense.

Coach Ryan currently trains at Alliance Dallas.  Coach Ryan and his wife have a four-year-old son.
